DokuFest, International Documentary and Short Film Festival, is the largest film festival in Kosovo. Each year the festival brings the cinemas and improvised screening venues around historic city center of Prizren a selection of more than 200 hand picked films from around the world.
The festival is known for its lively atmosphere, the amazing enthusiasm that grasps the city and its people and for the high number of 150 volunteers working for the festival. Documentary photo exhibitions, debates, master classes and lively music events are also part of the 9-day festival.
The International Festival of Young Musicians – DAM Festival Pristina is one of the most prominent cultural events taking place in the capital city of the Republic of Kosovo, Pristina. Founded in 2006, DAM Festival is an annual music festival which gathers young and talented national and international musicians from all over the world.
The KosovaInfest International Theater Festival began in 2004 and is held annually in Pristina, Kosovo's capital. The event is organized by the festival's dedicated management and staff, with the support of government and corporate sponsors, KosovoInfest brings theatrical performances from around the world to a grateful local audience.
KosovaInfest in the first five editions has brought the participation of 38 European countries with 42 shows. KosovoInfest is usually held in September and plays are played at the Kosovo National Theater.
Freedom Festival or Festival is an annual festival held in Pristina to commemorate the liberation of Kosovo by NATO troops in 1999. Freedom Fest is the only global music festival in Kosovo. Many internationally famous artists have eased the Freedom Festival scene. This two-day event, usually held on June 12 and 13, is hosted by Radio Urban FM.
Pristina Jazz Festival, recognized as one of the most important cultural events in the country, has succeeded in bringing important and world famous artists, has managed to stimulate the development and growth of the Kosovar jazz scene by organizing extremely high quality performances by Kosovar artists. managed to establish relationships and collaborations with artists, associations and world festivals, and has managed to be part of the European Jazz Fest network and soon to be part of the World Jazz Fest network.
BeerFest Kosovo is the first beer festival to be organized in Kosovo. This event has a promotional and entertaining character, with different beer brands participating with promotional awards and interesting offers for beer lovers. Also, during the days of the festival various games are organized as well as numerous singers, bands and DJs participate, thus creating a fun atmosphere. Among other things, guests also have a food corner where numerous types of food are offered from various restaurants. The festival opens at noon and ends at midnight.
The festival has a multimedia character, with three basic programs based on tradition, and which will be implemented as following:
• Plays and Theatrical performances,
• Exhibitions and figurative installations,
• Concerts, archaic rites and contemporary performances with a content based on tradition.
“Bunar Fest” is a traditional festival, race, which is held in Prizren. Everyone can show herself (himself) and participate in this festival and experience the thrill and adrenaline in her (his) blood.
PriFilmFest - Pristina International Film Festival seeks to bring the best of world cinema to Pristina, and promote the best of Kosovar film to the international public. PriFilmFest's mission is to open the doors of the world's youngest country, Kosovo, to welcoming diverse world cultures through cinema, using it as a medium to promote open dialogue between cultures and nations.
Stage UP is an international festival of film and theater students, held annually from October 2003 in Pristina. Founded by a group of young students and artists, Stage UP has been created as a competition platform for student films and performances, which makes this festival rare.
Kosovo is a very safe place to visit. Most of the visitors who read about the history of the wars in Kosovo had another impression, but after the visit stated that they had received a very good impression and felt safe in every respect.
For European and American countries, a visa is not required to visit Kosovo, and countries on other continents should contact the relevant offices.
The time zone of Kosovo is the Central European Area (CET), an area used in most European countries.
The climate in Kosovo is a continental climate, resulting in hot summers and cold winters. Due to the uneven altitudes in different places in Kosovo, there are differences in temperature and precipitation. December and January are the coldest months, July and August are the hottest months of the year. Snowfall can be expected between November and March.
The euro is the official currency used in Kosovo. Many countries also support credit card payments.
Rental cars are offered by various private firms in Kosovo. Many of these firms are located at Adem Jashari Airport, but also in different parts of cities. Their prices are reasonable, depending on the types of vehicles.
The cheapest way to get around the city is through urban transport buses. Pristina has different bus routes that send almost every corner of it for just 40 cents a ticket. Bus lines are also used to move between Kosovo cities at very cheap prices.
